Big boost for Longreach saleyards

LONGREACH Regional Council will build eight paddocks at the town’s saleyards with $719,548 support through a Federal Government Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) investment.

By Hamish Hart

Across the region, 12 BBRF infrastructure projects will be funded through a $21.3 million investment recently secured by Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud, who believes the saleyards project will benefit the cattle industry and its workers now and into the future.

"Making the right infrastructure investments, like building these eight paddocks at the Longreach Saleyards, brings big benefits to beef producers, truckies, stock agents, rural businesses, and the region," Mr Littleproud said.

"Beef producers will have more options in how they look after their cattle at the yards, which will be equipped with water, and in dry times, may be able to use the facility to feed core stock.

"One of my top goals is to keep improving our infrastructure for the more efficient movement of goods and transport, so we are better connected with customers and markets.

"The $720,000 upgrade to the Longreach Saleyards reflects this and builds up an asset that helps drive industry in the region.

"Investing in well-equipped infrastructure is a priority because it gives our businesses better access to markets and that’s a key goal of mine. That means jobs, growth for businesses and more opportunities for our future generations."
